How Pre-Orders Work at Hot Match Collectables
Pre-orders are one of the best ways to secure upcoming diecast releases before they sell out — especially when it comes to popular brands like Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Mini GT, Pop Race, Greenlight, M2 Machines, Tarmac Works and other highly collected 1:64 scale models.
At Hot Match Collectables, pre-orders allow collectors to lock in upcoming items early, often before the stock has arrived in Australia. This gives you a better chance of securing hard-to-find models, limited releases, full sets, factory cases and chase opportunities before demand spikes.
But pre-orders can also come with a bit of confusion. ETAs can move, suppliers can ship at different times, and sometimes other retailers may receive stock before we do.
So here’s a clear breakdown of how pre-orders actually work.
What Is a Diecast Pre-Order?
A pre-order means you are purchasing an item before it has physically arrived at our warehouse.
This is common in the diecast collecting world because manufacturers and distributors often announce upcoming releases months in advance. Retailers then place orders with suppliers, and collectors can secure their models before they land.
For popular releases, this can be the safest way to avoid missing out.
Some items sell out before they ever arrive, especially:
- Hot Wheels Premium cases
- Car Culture releases
- Team Transport mixes
- Matchbox Collectors releases
- Mini GT and Pop Race models
- Chase car assortments
- Limited edition or low-production diecast models
Once a pre-order sells out, we may not always be able to restock it.
Why Do ETAs Change?
ETAs are estimates, not guaranteed arrival dates.
This is one of the most important things to understand with pre-orders. A product may have an estimated arrival month, but that date can change due to factors outside our control.
Common reasons include:
- Manufacturer production delays
- Supplier shipment delays
- International freight delays
- Customs processing
- Distributor allocation changes
- Items arriving in separate waves
- Factory or warehouse delays
- Retailers receiving stock at different times
We always aim to provide the most accurate information available at the time, but ETAs can shift. Sometimes stock arrives earlier than expected. Other times, it can be pushed back by weeks or even months.
That is simply part of the diecast pre-order world.
Why Do Other Retailers Sometimes Get Stock First?
This is a common question.
Sometimes another retailer may receive the same product before us. That does not always mean something has gone wrong.
Different retailers may be supplied by different distributors, receive different shipment waves, or have stock allocated from different regions. Some stores may also be receiving only a small portion of stock while others wait for their full allocation.
We understand it can be frustrating when you see an item appear elsewhere first, but this does not always reflect the actual status of our order.
Once our stock arrives, we work through orders as quickly as possible.
How Factory Cases Are Handled
When we sell sealed cases, they are supplied as factory cases from the manufacturer or distributor.
In most cases, these are shipped exactly as received.
Sometimes factory cases may arrive double-taped, triple-taped or re-taped from the supplier or warehouse. This can happen during factory packing, distributor checks, freight handling or warehouse processing.
This does not automatically mean the case has been searched or tampered with.
As a retailer, we do not control how cases are packed before they arrive to us. Our role is to ship them safely and honestly to customers.
Do We Search Cases for Chase Cars?
No.
Hot Match Collectables does not search factory cases for chase cars.
If a product listing includes a chance of chase, that means the case or assortment may include a chase variant based on the manufacturer’s release structure. It does not mean a chase is guaranteed unless the product listing specifically says so.
For sealed cases, we ship them as received.
For sets, chase cars are generally not included unless clearly stated in the product description.
If a case has a known guaranteed chase, we will say so in the listing.
Why Pre-Ordering Early Can Be Worth It
Pre-ordering early can be a smart move for collectors, especially when a release is expected to be popular.
Benefits include:
- Better chance of securing stock
- Avoiding sell-outs after release
- Access to early pricing where available
- Ability to secure full sets or cases
- Better planning for upcoming collections
- Less stress chasing stock once it lands
Some collectors prefer to wait until stock arrives, and that is completely fine. But with high-demand releases, waiting can sometimes mean missing out.
Should You Order In-Stock and Pre-Order Items Together?
You can, but it is important to understand how shipping works.
If your order contains both in-stock items and pre-order items, your order will generally ship once all items are available.
If you want in-stock items shipped now and pre-order items shipped later, it is best to place separate orders.
The same applies when ordering multiple pre-order products with different ETAs. If one item is due earlier and another is due months later, placing them in the same order may mean they ship together once everything has arrived.
To avoid delays, split your orders by release date where possible.
What Happens When Stock Arrives?
Once stock arrives at Hot Match Collectables, we begin processing customer orders as quickly as possible.
Depending on the size of the shipment, this can include:
- Checking stock received against supplier invoices
- Sorting pre-orders
- Packing orders safely
- Printing labels
- Updating tracking
- Dispatching orders in batches
During large product drops, there may be hundreds of orders to process. We always aim to get orders moving quickly while still packing them properly.
What If a Pre-Order Is Cancelled by the Supplier?
While uncommon, supplier cancellations can happen.
Sometimes manufacturers reduce allocations, cancel certain items, change case contents, or delay a product indefinitely.
If this happens, we will do our best to communicate clearly and provide the best available solution based on the situation.
We understand collectors place trust in us when they pre-order, and we take that seriously.
Our Approach to Pre-Orders
At Hot Match Collectables, we are collectors too. We understand the excitement of locking in a new release, the frustration of delays, and the disappointment of missing out on a model you really wanted.
Our goal is to make pre-orders as clear and fair as possible.
That means:
- Listing upcoming items as accurately as we can
- Being upfront that ETAs can change
- Shipping factory cases as received
- Not searching cases for chase cars
- Processing orders as quickly as possible once stock arrives
- Giving collectors the chance to secure releases early
Pre-orders are not always perfect, but they are a major part of how the diecast hobby works — especially for limited, premium and high-demand releases.
Final Thoughts
Pre-orders are one of the best ways to stay ahead in the diecast collecting world.
Whether you are chasing Hot Wheels Premium, Matchbox, Mini GT, Pop Race, Greenlight, M2 Machines or other 1:64 scale releases, pre-ordering gives you a stronger chance of securing the models you want before they disappear.
Just remember: ETAs are estimates, cases are shipped as received, chase cars are never searched for, and mixed orders will generally ship once everything is available.
Thanks for supporting Hot Match Collectables — and happy collecting.
